The next version of Canonical's Ubuntu Linux distribution, to be released next week, will be the prototypic to run on the Arm architecture, as well equally the outset edition to offer a new cloud service instrumentation engine, known as JuJu.

Basic is attributable release both the desktop and the server editions of its Linux-based distributions adjacent Thursday. "It's youth, just its something to keep open your eyes on," said Jane Silber, CEO of Canonical, who introduced the new features at the OpenStack conference, being held this week in Boston.

Ubuntu 11.10 will also total with the latest OpenStack cloud software, called Diablo, along with a new cloud services instrumentation locomotive.

The distribution "is a good scene for braggy information workloads," Silber aforementioned.

The Arm architecture has grownup increasingly fashionable in the past hardly a long time as manufacturers are creating more low-powered tablets high-powered with Arm chips. Microsoft declared that its next version of the Windows desktop OS, Windows 8, will keep going Arm.

On the server side, however, Gir is not as widely used. Microsoft has no plans to port its Windows Waiter Bone to Arm.

Canonical's Gir edition of Ubuntu is not completely polished yet, Silber admitted.

"I know none of you are construction your corrupt on Arm architecture yet, but its a real promising architecture, and we're selfsame proud to be working with the leaders in that part of the ecosystem to bring that late capability to the open source world maiden. It's a substantial move," she said.

On the show base, Basic demonstrated a server running happening an Fortify C.P.U.. The server was assembled past Canonical by hand, as fewer, if whatever, hardware manufacturers sell Arm-based servers yet.

During her babble out, Silber, along with an subordinate, also demonstrated JuJu, gaping source software package developed by Canonical that can represent in use to automate the start-up and shutting descending of cloud services running on OpenStack.

A service is any regular job that is run happening a befog platform, Silber explained. JuJu provides the ability for administrators to package all the routine actions that needed to be taken to spin up a chore connected the machine.

The demonstration involved spinning up a translation of Hadoop that ran crossways multiple servers, an act that took sole a few minutes across a 72-core group node.

"Take to be services like [computer software] packages," Silber same. "On Ubuntu, ask for a package and IT is at that place, You remove it and its gone. Services are the same way. When you ask for a inspection and repair it is there, when you remove it, it is absent."
