1 The Silo in Cape Town

Hovering atop Cape Town's Victoria & Alfred waterfront is the Heatherwick Studio-designed Silo Hotel, a striking monument located just six floors above the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art in Africa (the largest museum of contemporary African art in the world). While the exterior structure boasts industrial-style geometric steel-and-glass, its interiors are an explosion of color, pattern, and art. The Silo's owner, Liz Biden, chose to include a subterranean private art gallery—known as The Vault—in the basement of the hotel, which features bi-annual exhibitions. Designed to showcase both up-and-coming and established artists, the collection spotlights an incredible collection of contemporary African art.
